Aside from the Seal, BYD also presented the Atto 3 electric SUV at the motor show.
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD, which stands for “Build Your Dreams,” debuted the all-new Seal in India for the first time at the Auto Expo 2023. The Seal is an electric sedan designed from the ground up, competing with the widely popular Tesla Model 3 in international markets such as the US and China.
BYD has officially announced the launch of the Seal in India by the fourth quarter of 2023, with deliveries scheduled to commence around the same time.
The pricing details will be disclosed by the end of 2023. The Seal is equipped with BYD’s distinctive rotating infotainment display and is powered by an 82.5kWh battery, providing a range of up to 700km on the CLTC cycle.
The design of the BYD Seal is influenced by the Ocean X concept.
The Seal has dimensions of 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. In terms of its design, the Seal draws inspiration from the 2021 Ocean X concept and adheres to BYD’s “ocean aesthetics” design language. It also maintains the ocean-themed nomenclature seen in BYD’s EV range, akin to the Dolphin.
Highlighting distinctive features, the Seal incorporates a coupe-like all-glass roof, seamlessly integrated door handles, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a split headlamp design, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.
The BYD Seal comes equipped with a rotating touchscreen.
Similar to the Atto 3 SUV and e6 MPV, the BYD Seal features a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment display in the center console. The driver is provided with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. Positioned between the central AC vents, the floating touchscreen is accompanied by the drive selector and a scroll wheel for choosing different drive modes.
Within the center console, you’ll find essential controls for functions like the heated windscreen, volume adjustment for the audio system, and two wireless charging pads. The interior is adorned with gloss black inserts, white contrasting dashboard trim, and door handles integrated into speakers, lending a special and flamboyant appearance reminiscent of the Atto 3.
The BYD Seal is set to achieve a range of up to 700 kilometers.
The Seal incorporates BYD’s Blade battery technology, a feature that will be introduced in more EVs in India. Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Seal offers two battery pack options: a 61.4kWh unit and an 82.5kWh unit. The former claims a range of 550km, while the latter achieves up to 700km on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Charging capabilities differ, with the smaller battery supporting rates up to 110kW and the larger one reaching speeds of up to 150kW.
Globally, the sedan provides a choice between single-motor and dual-motor powertrains. While the single motor can be paired with both batteries, the dual-motor configuration is exclusive to the larger battery. In India, the Seal will be offered with the dual-motor powertrain featuring an all-wheel-drive setup. The front axle-mounted electric motor generates 218hp, and the rear motor produces 312hp. Combined, they deliver 530hp and achieve a claimed 0-100kph time of 3.8 seconds.
