The Citroen C3 Aircross SUV will initially be introduced with a petrol powertrain, with its electric variant to follow.
Citroen is set to introduce the all-electric eC3 Aircross SUV by 2025. The initial launch will feature the petrol-powered Citroen C3 Aircross SUV, expected to debut later this year in India before reaching other markets. The confirmation of an EV powertrain option for the upcoming C3 Aircross comes from Citroen’s branding executive Laurent Barria in an interview with Autocar UK.
The eC3 Aircross is anticipated to compete with the Creta EV and Maruti eVX in 2025, offering multiple seating options. It will be built on PSA’s modular eCMP platform. Recent spy shots of the C3 Aircross SUV on Indian roads revealed both 5- and 7-seat configurations. While the petrol-powered C3 Aircross is anticipated to launch in India later this year, the all-electric C3 Aircross is expected to hit the market sometime next year.
Citroen eC3 Aircross: Exterior Design
Barria emphasized the car’s commitment to “accessibility to electric mobility.” Despite the camouflage obscuring its appearance, it is anticipated that the C3 Aircross’s design will draw inspiration from the C3 hatchback and the facelifted C5 Aircross SUV, both currently available in India. The vehicle will feature robust tires and ample cladding to meet the market demand for rugged-looking SUVs.
The upcoming C3 Aircross is expected to be slightly larger than its predecessor sold abroad, exhibiting a boxier profile and a length of around 4.3 meters, positioning it in a size category similar to the Hyundai Creta available in our market.
Recent spy shots confirm the presence of a sizable split radiator grille and production-ready headlights with an LED daytime running strip curving upward toward the windscreen. At the rear, exposed portions of the lights reveal a striped design, while the boxy bodywork imparts a less crossover-like appearance. This design approach suggests the potential for increased interior space for occupants and their belongings.
Citroen eC3 Aircross: Interior Layout and Platform
The C3 Aircross will feature a redesigned dashboard layout distinct from the Citroen C3 hatchback, while retaining certain elements such as the steering wheel and switchgear. The newly introduced high-mounted touchscreen housing sets it apart from the hatchback. Although the HVAC controls and vents may appear basic in the provided images, higher trim variants could incorporate automatic climate control. The SUV is expected to offer both 5- and 7-seat configurations, as previously reported.
Regarding its platform, anticipate the new C3 Aircross SUV to be based on PSA’s modular eCMP architecture, which is also utilized for the eC3 electric hatchback.
Citroen eC3 Aircross: Anticipated Price and Competitors
When it debuts in India in 2025, we anticipate the eC3 Aircross to enter the market with a competitive starting price, following a similar strategy expected for the eC3 hatchback. The eC3 Aircross is poised to compete with models like the Creta EV, Seltos EV, and Maruti’s eVX EV SUV, all of which are projected to be available in the Indian market by 2025.
