A prototype of the Hyundai Creta EV has been spotted on the outskirts of Chennai, suggesting that the production SUV, based on the next-generation Creta, is in development.
Hyundai has initiated the development of an all-electric Creta SUV, scheduled to be available for purchase in 2025. The initial prototype, derived from the current-generation Creta, has been observed near Chennai, and series production of the Creta EV is anticipated to commence by late 2024. This upcoming SUV, codenamed SU2i EV, is set to make its global debut at Auto Expo 2025.
The Creta EV is positioned to compete with the Maruti eVX EV SUV and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15-30 lakh. Production is slated to begin in late 2024.
Hyundai Creta EV: Insights from Spy Shots
The spy shots reveal the current-generation Creta featuring a distinct protrusion under the body, strongly resembling an EV battery pack. The proximity of the vehicle to an EV charging station provides further confirmation that this prototype is indeed an electric vehicle based on the Creta. Currently, there are no available details regarding the electric powertrain or battery pack specifications that Hyundai intends to employ in the production version of the Creta EV.
Hyundai Creta EV: Launch Timeline for India
Hyundai is anticipated to unveil the Creta EV in the Indian market around 2025. Until its arrival, the Ioniq 5 and the Kona EV will be the sole electric models available. Hyundai also plans to achieve full localization of the E-GMP platform, intended for use in both India and global markets.
Upon its market introduction, the Creta EV is poised to compete with models such as the Maruti eVX EV SUV and the Seltos EV. According to sources, the pricing for the Creta EV may fall within the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh at the time of launch.

Upcoming Hyundai SUV and Car Launches
Hyundai is set to debut its all-new Verna on March 21, featuring the new 1.5-litre turbo and naturally aspirated petrol engines. The newly introduced turbo-petrol engine is slated to be utilized across various Hyundai-Kia models in India, including the Creta, Seltos, and Carens, thereby replacing the existing 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit. Additionally, Hyundai has outlined its intention to launch six electric vehicles in India by 2028.
