The launch of the New Mini Cooper EV in India is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024.

The New Mini Cooper EV now features a specialized electric vehicle platform.

The transformation of the British brand Mini into an exclusively electric vehicle (EV) lineup has gained momentum with the introduction of the new Mini Cooper electric hatchback and the new Mini Countryman.

Diverging from the old Mini Electric, which underwent a direct conversion from an internal combustion engine (ICE) to an EV, the new three-door electric hatchback now rests upon a dedicated EV platform. This platform is the result of collaboration with Spotlight Automotive, a joint venture based in China between Mini’s parent company BMW and Great Wall Motor.

Key features of the new Cooper electric include a range of up to 402km, an all-new circular 9.4-inch touchscreen, and plans for an India launch by the third quarter of 2024.

New Mini Cooper EV exterior design

The new Cooper electric exemplifies Mini’s fresh Characteristic Simplicity design language, as articulated by creative chief Oliver Heilmer, emphasizing the brand’s essential elements. Building upon Mini’s iconic design cues, the Cooper electric features circular headlights without bezels, accompanied by an enlarged octagonal front grille with blanked-out surfaces.

The exterior exudes a chrome-free aesthetic, with the removal of wheel-arch trims, flush-fitted door handles, and a deliberate omission of the signature faux air vent on the front fenders for a Mini-malistic design, as coined by the brand. At the rear, the redesigned tail-lights adopt a new triangular shape, offering personalization options for the internals. The roof achieves a floating effect, thanks to the blacked-out pillars. In terms of dimensions, the wheelbase has expanded to accommodate the battery, while the overall length has undergone a reduction.

New Mini Cooper EV interior and features

The interior design of minimalism pays homage to the original BMC Mini of 1959, featuring a round instrument cluster positioned above a row of toggles. The curved dashboard boasts a knitted textile surface and houses a groundbreaking 9.4-inch OLED infotainment touchscreen, touted as the first circular one to be integrated into a production car. While the previous Cooper also sported a circular infotainment housing, it utilized a traditional landscape screen.

The software running the show is Mini’s latest Android-based operating system, developed in collaboration with Samsung. In line with the minimalist theme, the instrument cluster has been omitted, replaced by a reflective panel for the head-up display positioned ahead of the sleeker, all-new steering wheel. Textured surfaces are generously distributed throughout the cabin, contributing to its distinctive character.
